Chef Jean - Funding a Worthy Cause
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Chef Jean's Spice Blend are donated to the Foundation for Mitochondrial Medicine to give hope and a future for all affected by those disorders, including Sebastien.
The story of our spice started in 2005 when our son Sebastien was diagnosed with a rare Mitochondrial disorder. As we all know, raising money for medical research is a daunting task. Mitochondrial defects affect the energy producing cells in our bodies. The effects of poorly functioning Mitochondrial cells include poor overall growth, low muscle tone, strokes, extreme spells of fatigue, mental and cognitive development delay, hearing loss, organ failure and often death.
In the past 5 years, Mitochondrial malfunction has been positively linked to other serious conditions such as Autism, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Muscular Dystrophy and certain types of Diabetes.
Provencal Spice Rub – a savory blend of 17 individual spices from his native Provence, France – and is donating a portion of the proceeds of all sales to the Foundation. The Provencal Spice Rub is available at www.chefjeanchristophe.com and at Tampa-area Fresh Market stores.
The Foundation for Mitochondrial Medicine is dedicated to supporting the most promising treatments for the many forms of mitochondrial disease. People with mitochondrial disease struggle daily. So do the many people affected by the cousins of mitochondrial disease—Autism, Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s, ALS, Chronic Fatigue, diabetes, epilepsy and more.
We appreciate our donors, volunteers, and social media friends – all of you help us on the mission to fund research and treatments for pediatric and adult patients.
Hope can fly. Hope can heal. Thank you.
